What to Expect

Taking the decision to start therapy with a counsellor is a significant choice and moment. It might feel both daunting and empowering.

If I am available when you contact me on the phone, we can have a brief discussion right away. Otherwise, after receiving your message, I will contact you to arrange a no-obligation, brief phone call. During this phone call we will discuss the practicalities of your first session.

Your first session will last for approximately 50 minutes. During our talk, you will be able to find out if you feel comfortable talking to me, discuss what concerns you, ask questions, clarify confidentiality, and determine if therapy could assist you.

And I will ask you about the following:

  • your reasons to seek therapy now

  • your way of coping with your issues so far

  • your previous experience of therapy

  • any thoughts of harming yourself

  • your significant childhood relationships

  • your connection to other people around you now

  • your aims of therapy at this time

If we are to continue, we will set a regular time slot for your weekly sessions which will last for 50 minutes. And I will send my Working Agreement to you prior to starting counselling so that if you wish to negotiate any changes, we can discuss them during our next session.

The number of sessions and topics are entirely up to you. We will regularly review our work together.

I offer appointments 7 days a week, at different times each day online, by phone and in-person. You can ask me about my availability for a specific slot here or you could wait to discuss this later.
